Newspaper

Several of us are starting a newspaper for and by CherryWood residents. Publication date for the first issue is tentatively set for March 1, 2009. We need more people for the staff. Specific skills needed are writers, creators of puzzles, writers of jokes, and people to assist with folding and distributing the newspaper.

The writers are reporters, willing and able to interview people or research stories and write them up.

Our poetry editor, Elwyn Williams, is looking for poets. If you write poetry, call him at 1-503-265-8331.

Other volunteers can call Dick Lutz at 1-503-580-0485 or e-mail at dickbook@earthlink.net.

The paper will also carry free Classified Ads strictly for CherryWood residents. The ads will feature items for sale or to give away and services available to residents. Call Dick Lutz re this.

Intellectual stimulation

A 2-session course is being presented in the CherryWood board room at 6 pm on Monday, January 19th, and Monday, January 26th. The course is on the Counter Culture movements of the 60s and 70s. It is taught by the historian Tucker Jackson. Dr. Jackson taught a course last year on various aspects of the Lewis & Clark expedition, particularly the political ramifications. I found the course very interesting and Dr. Jackson an excellent teacher.

The courses are presented by the organization OASIS and are FREE to CherryWood residents. I recommend that you sign up (in the Wellness Center) for this course.
